l Marine Park. A group of local chao ley (sea gypsies), Urak Lawoi first settled on the island over one hundred years ago, and quickly established themselves as a resourceful community. The Urak Lawoi still reside on the island, with a healthy population of almost 800 chao ley, they now make up a large percentage of Koh Lipe's workforce and run several small business, which we encourage you to support.
Today, Koh Lipe attracts travellers from across the globe to enjoy some of the world's best beaches, and excellent snorkelling.
